Getting Started

Q: How do I grant microphone permission?

A: When you first open the app, iOS will prompt you to allow microphone access. If you denied it:

1. Open iOS Settings
2. Scroll to "SongScribe Tuner"
3. Enable "Microphone"
4. Restart the app

Q: Does the app work offline?

A: Yes! SongScribe Tuner is fully offline after download. No internet connection required.

Q: What instruments are supported?

A: All instruments! Choose from:

• Chromatic: Any note (55-1200 Hz)
• Guitar: Standard 6-string guitar tuning
• Ukulele: Standard ukulele tuning
• Bass: 4-string bass guitar
• Violin: Standard violin tuning

Tuning Tips

Q: Why is the tuner not detecting my instrument?

A: Try these troubleshooting steps:

1. ✅ Ensure microphone permission is granted
2. ✅ Play notes clearly and loudly
3. ✅ Reduce background noise (turn off music, TV, etc.)
4. ✅ Move closer to your device's microphone
5. ✅ Pluck/bow strings one at a time
6. ✅ Check that your device's microphone is working (try Voice Memos app)

Q: How accurate is the tuner?

A: SongScribe Tuner is accurate to within ±1 cent (1/100th of a semitone), comparable to professional hardware tuners. Accuracy depends on:

• Microphone quality
• Background noise levels
• Instrument volume and clarity

Q: What is the reference pitch (A4)?

A: The reference pitch is the frequency of the A above middle C (A4). Standard tuning uses 440 Hz, but some orchestras and historical instruments use different pitches (430-450 Hz). You can customize this in Settings.

Q: Should I use sharps (♯) or flats (♭)?

A: It's personal preference! Both show the same notes:

• Sharps: C, C♯, D, D♯, E, F, F♯, G, G♯, A, A♯, B
• Flats: C, D♭, D, E♭, E, F, G♭, G, A♭, A, B♭, B

Change this in Settings → Note Display Style.

Purchases & Billing

Q: How do I remove ads?

A: Tap "Remove Ads" in Settings for a one-time $1.99 purchase. No subscription required!

Q: How do I restore my "Remove Ads" purchase?

A: If you reinstalled the app or got a new device:

1. Tap Settings → Restore Purchases
2. Sign in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase
3. Your ad-free access will be restored immediately (no charge)

Q: Can I get a refund?

A: All purchases are processed through Apple. To request a refund:

1. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com
2. Sign in with your Apple ID
3. Find "SongScribe Tuner" in your purchase history
4. Request a refund

Q: Why do ads still show after purchase?

A: Try these steps:

1. Tap Settings → Restore Purchases
2. Force-close the app (swipe up in App Switcher)
3. Reopen the app
4. If ads persist, contact [email protected] with your Apple receipt

Settings & Customization

Q: How do I change the reference pitch?

A:

1. Tap Settings (gear icon)
2. Tap "Reference Pitch"
3. Adjust the slider (430-450 Hz)
4. Default is 440 Hz (standard tuning)

Q: What's the difference between instrument presets?

A: Each preset optimizes the frequency range for specific instruments:

• Chromatic: Widest range, all notes
• Guitar: Optimized for E2-E4 (standard tuning)
• Ukulele: Optimized for G4-A4 (soprano ukulele)
• Bass: Optimized for E1-G2 (4-string bass)
• Violin: Optimized for G3-E5 (standard tuning)

Choose the preset closest to your instrument for best results.

Q: Can I use dark mode?

A: Yes! Dark mode follows your iOS system settings. To enable:

1. Open iOS Settings
2. Tap Display & Brightness
3. Select "Dark"

Privacy & Data

Q: Do you record my microphone audio?

A: Absolutely NOT. Your microphone audio is:

• Processed in real-time on your device
• Used only for pitch detection
• Never stored or saved
• Never transmitted to our servers

Q: What data do you collect?

A: We collect minimal data:

• Local Settings: Stored on YOUR device (instrument preset, reference pitch)
• Purchase Status: Whether you bought "Remove Ads" (processed by Apple)
• Analytics (Optional): Anonymous usage stats to improve the app
• AdMob (Free Version): Ad impression data (see AdMob privacy policy)

We do NOT:

• ❌ Access your personal files
• ❌ Track your location
• ❌ Sell your data
• ❌ Record audio

Q: How do I delete my data?

A: Simply uninstall the app. All local settings will be deleted. If you purchased "Remove Ads", your purchase record remains with Apple (for restore purposes).
